In this article, I’m sharing 20 essential phrases, simple and natural, to help you get by anywhere: at the airport, in a cafĂ©, at the hotel, or out on the street.

🧭 Se dĂ©placer

Because Google Maps is great
 but asking a real French person is often faster (and friendlier). You never know, maybe it’s the start of a great conversation.

  1. Excusez-moi, vous pouvez me dire oĂč se trouve 
 ? — Excuse me, can you tell me where 
 is?

  2. C’est loin d’ici ? — Is it far from here?

  3. Je peux y aller à pied ? — Can I walk there?

?


☕ Au cafĂ© ou au restaurant

In France, eating is serious business. Better have the right phrases to order properly.

  1. Je voudrais un cafĂ©, s’il vous plaĂźt. — I’d like a coffee, please.

  2. L’addition, s’il vous plaüt. — The bill, please.

  3. C’est compris dans le menu ? — Is this included in the menu?

  4. Vous me conseillez quoi ? — What do you recommend?

  5. C’était dĂ©licieux, merci ! — It was delicious, thank you!


🏹 À l’hîtel

After a long trip, your brain is tired
 these phrases do the work for you.

 — I have a reservation under the name


  2. À quelle heure est le petit-dĂ©jeuner ? — What time is breakfast?

  3. Le Wi-Fi est gratuit ? — Is the Wi‑Fi free?
